Remote Site Incubator (RSI) - Perkins Creek

  1. Remote site incubators (RSIs) allow salmon fry to be reared in streams where spawning no longer occurs or rearing may be limited. Stream water enters the RSI through a gravity-fed piping system, first entering a filtration barrel before being piped into barrels with salmon eggs.
  2. Incubation trays ensure water flows adequately over the eggs, supplying necessary oxygen and nutrients. After hatching, alevin slip through the mesh egg tray to absorb their their yolk sacs in gravel substrate at the bottom of the barrel, Fry exit the RSI into the stream through an outflow pipe a the top of the barrel.
